Designs for Living Home Tour
October 4-5, 2008 10am - 4pm Daily
October is a perfect time to enjoy the splendid colors of fall in the Foothills while touring charming and diverse privately owned residencies during Music in the Mountains Designs for Living Home Tour. Highlighted homes during 2007's tour included an award winning contemporary masterpiece surrounded by the owner’s large metal sculptures. .Another home features a full underground wine cave reconstructed with concrete floors and thick granite walls set deep into the hillside to maintain acool temperate environment. Another is a wonderful Tahoe style home with Craftsman overtones built on 1½ acres of well manicured lawn and garden. The annual fund raising event for Music in the Mountains, takes place early October on a Saturday and Sunday from10am to 4pm each day in and around Grass Valley and Nevada City. It is a tour of residences that reflect the diverse architecture of Grass Valley and Nevada City.
Designs for Living is a self-guided and self-paced driving and walking tour which takes place in Nevada City and Grass Valley, California. Although the entire tour can be done in a day, tickets are valid for two leisurely days of viewing. Many area restaurants also offer lunch discounts to those touring the homes (details available at the Tour). To assure the safety of the homes and the visitors, children who attend the
tour must be accompanied by an adult and babies need to be carried while
inside all the homes. Tour-goers will receive a comprehensive
map of the area with parking tips for each address. Maps and directions
will be available at the “Tour” homes and the Music in the Mountains box
Office.
