MIMYO Suzuki Strings

What is it? The Suzuki method recognizes that starting a stringed instrument takes daily parent participation in the beginning for the students to become successful. These guidelines are a foundation to the Suzuki method and have been a great to support to generations of successful Suzuki string players..
 
Students will be taught by ear in the beginning and will learn exact violin and bow hold position though games. Once the students have mastered good position, tone and intonation through memorizing several pieces they will begin note reading.

Parents are expected to play a 25 minute recording of the first Suzuki book every day to develop their child’s musical interest and learning of the beginning pieces. Parents are highly encouraged to observe each class and take videos and notes for home practice so students can keep pace with their classmates. Students will be expected to practice at home most every day of the week and parents should oversee this especially in the beginning. For students in 3rd grade or younger this is a mandatory requirement

Who Teaches it? Our new MIMYO Suzuki Strings class is taught by our MIMYO Resident String Specialist, Ms. Kasandra Klassy. Ms. Klassy is a certified Suzuki teacher, who has studied with Dr. Suzuki in Japan.

What is the Cost? The MIMYO Suzuki Strings program is a Two Year-long course that will begin September 14^th 2026 and continue through May 3^rd 2027 for the first year. Dates for Year Two will be in conjunction with the MIMYO season 2027-26 calendar. You may register for the entire year for $600 or pay for the program in two installments of $320 each. Are there instruments available for students? Music in the Mountains does have some violins that can be rented as long as you are enrolled in the program. Ms. Kassandra will assist students with instrument needs.

Music for Young Minds

Music for Young Minds is a fun, interactive music program where children in grades K-3 learn all about their world while also learning about music.

They sing, dance, make art, and learn about musical principals and geography through exposure to the music of different cultures around the globe.

The curriculum is based on materials from Carnegie Hall’s Weill Music Institute and is taught by professional music educators at various participating school sites in Nevada County. The program is age appropriate and standards based.
